About Vertis Health

Vertis Health is a federation of general practices delivering high-quality NHS services across Worcestershire. We were founded by local primary care clinicians and are owned by the practices we serve. As a purpose-led limited company, the money we generate is reinvested into the local healthcare economy, helping to strengthen services, support innovation and improve patient care.

Vertis Health delivers and supports a range of primary care and urgent care services. Current and developing opportunities may include Primary Care Services at or around local Emergency Departments, out-of-hours medical cover for community hospitals, and other services mobilised in response to local system need. Joining the staff bank does not restrict a GP to one service and does not guarantee a minimum number of shifts. Offers of work will reflect service demand, commissioning arrangements, competence, availability and completion of service-specific onboarding.

Why this role exists

We are seeking experienced and dedicated GPs to join the Vertis Locum GP Staff Bank. This is an exciting opportunity to provide high-quality, patient-centred care across a variety of primary care, urgent care and community healthcare settings, while enjoying the flexibility to choose shifts that fit your availability.

As a Bank Locum GP, you will play a vital role in assessing, diagnosing and managing patients with a wide range of healthcare needs. Working as part of a multidisciplinary team, you will deliver safe, effective and compassionate care, support service delivery during periods of increased demand, and contribute to positive patient outcomes. This role is ideal for clinicians who are adaptable, confident in autonomous decision-making, and committed to delivering excellent standards of care.

Key responsibilities

  • Assess, diagnose and manage patients across urgent, primary and community care settings.

  • Prescribe, investigate, refer and escalate care as clinically required.

  • Deliver face-to-face, telephone and remote consultations.

  • Maintain clear and accurate clinical records.

  • Provide high-quality patient communication and safety-netting.

  • Work effectively within multidisciplinary teams and established clinical pathways.

  • Support safe, patient-centred care while meeting governance and safeguarding requirements.

  • Contribute to service quality, patient safety and continuous improvement initiatives

Person specification

  • Qualified GP with full GMC registration, licence to practise and inclusion on the GP Register.

  • Recent experience in general practice, urgent care, out-of-hours care, community services or another comparable setting.

  • Ability to assess undifferentiated presentations, recognise deterioration and make safe autonomous decisions.

  • Competence in safe prescribing, referral, escalation, clinical documentation and safety-netting.

  • Strong communication and multidisciplinary working skills.

  • Understanding of safeguarding, consent, capacity, confidentiality, equality and clinical governance.

  • Ability to use electronic clinical systems and complete service-specific digital training.

  • Reliability, adaptability and willingness to work within different service models and SOPs.

  • Ability to travel between locations where required for an accepted assignment.

Values: Person-centred, fair, improvement minded, committed to equality, diversity and inclusion.
